# Privacy Policy — PlayOrShine

PlayOrShine ("we", "us", "PlayOrShine") is a youth and amateur sports
platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we
use it, and the choices you have. By using the service you agree to this
policy.
## 1. What we collect
- **Account information.** Email, full name, account type (player, parent,
coach, league director, athletic director, sports trainer, sponsor,
official), and the metadata you choose to add to your profile.
- **Profile content.** Stats, awards, team and roster memberships, photos,
short videos, posts, comments, and other content you choose to publish on
the platform.
- **Communications.** Messages you send through in-app messaging, plus
metadata (timestamps, participants) needed to deliver them.
- **Payment information.** Handled by Stripe; we do not store full card
numbers. We retain transaction IDs and amounts for billing and tax.
- **Technical data.** IP address, device/browser type, pages visited, and
approximate location derived from IP for security, abuse prevention, and
analytics.
## 2. Information about minors
PlayOrShine supports accounts for players under 13 (`parent_under13`) and
players 13–17 (`player_14to17`). These accounts:
- require a parent or guardian email at signup;
- have privacy defaults set to non-public;
- are excluded from public directory searches.
We follow applicable youth-privacy laws (COPPA in the U.S., GDPR Article 8
in the EU/UK, and equivalents). Parents can request access to, correction
of, or deletion of a minor's data at any time by emailing

## 3. How we use information
- Provide the service (stats, rosters, scheduling, messaging, payments).
- Authenticate users and prevent abuse, fraud, and account compromise.
- Send transactional email (confirmations, password reset, important
account notices).
- Improve the product (aggregate, de-identified analytics).
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do **not** sell personal information.
## 4. Sharing
We share information only with:
- **Service providers** under contract (hosting, email, payment processing,
push notifications, video storage).
- **Other users of the platform**, but only what your account / privacy
settings allow. A `public` post is public; a `private` post is not.
- **Law enforcement** when we are legally required, and only the minimum
necessary.
## 5. Your choices
- Edit or delete your profile content at any time.
- Delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account (this
triggers a `SECURITY DEFINER` server routine that removes the account).
- Opt out of non-essential email from Settings → Notifications.
## 6. Security
We use industry-standard transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS), row-level
security on our database, magic-byte validation on uploads, rate-limited
APIs, and session-fixation defences. No system is perfect; report security

## 7. Data retention
We retain account data while your account is active. Deletion requests
remove personally identifiable information; aggregated, de-identified
statistics may be retained.
## 8. International transfers
PlayOrShine is operated from the United States. By using the service you
consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the U.S.
## 9. Changes
We will post changes to this policy at this URL with a new "Last updated"
date. Material changes will be announced in-product.
